Avenue Art Days Mural Crawl Tutorial
Tasked to create a motion graphic video for an organization in Wichita I thought Avenue Art Days would be so to create content for!
Avenue Art Days is a Douglas Design District initiative aimed at harnessing young, creative talent in Wichita to improve the aesthetic of Douglas Avenue and surrounding areas.
The video game concept uses motion graphics and video paired together to inform the participants on the crawl they are about to go on to find all of the newly painted murals for that year’s Avenue Art days. The event happens in conjunction to Open Streets ICT. When thinking more about the crawl, it reminded me of a quest, and so came about the concept for the tutorial to look like it’s a video game.
I pulled inspiration from vintage video games from the 80’s and 90’s for the design and aesthetics. I also watched movies such as “Ready Player One.” The viewer is put in a first person point of view where they get to see a volunteer and use the black light to find the clue. I wanted to activate the murals in a different way that relates to video games. In addition to the video, I create some motion graphics that could be used for instagram posts.
